96 GC Laredo stalling update.
So it seems the Air temp sensor may have done the trick. I have noticed something else while driving back and forth to work all week and i'm unsure it's related to the original stalling issue, or just a parallel problem... a couple times this week, while in stop and go traffic, the engine would "feel" like it was bogged down for a second or two, the RPM would drop really low, and then a second or two later, kick back up as if the engine was restarted. Then it would idle down to normal speed. This morning it did it, and back fired as I accelerated. That concerns me, because I just replaced the Cat Converter last week. The stall is long enough for me to roll my eyes and think "Great, it's going to die.", but it doesn't. In the last year and a half of chasing down this problem, I've replaced the following:
Ignition Coil Spark PLugs/Wires Distributer cap and rotor Entire distributer module (including cam position sensor) Crank position sensor Throttle position sensor Vehicle speed sensor Idle air control motor Fuel pump and filter. Water pump, fan clutch, thermostat and coolant temp sensor... (Unrelated, but had a major water pump malfuntion... the shaft broke and slung pieces of belt all over the place, lol.) 2 catalysts, (both failing within a month of each other. i'm on my third one now) ECM E22 update recall was done 2 weeks ago (This is when i put in my third cat) Idle Air Temperature Sensor (Seems to have finally fixed it?) **EDIT** Oh yeah, I also replaced my Exhaust Manifold and gave the intake and injectors a really good cleaning... Fuel Pressure, oil level and pressure, coolant, all fluids and pressure seem to be within spec. I have some seepage coming from my rear main seal and that's a big bummer. ![]() I have a vehicle diagnostic computer, and the only codes I ever got prior the the e22 update was "Primary/secondary ignition failure" and "Multiple cylinder misfire". Now, I'm not getting any codes, but there's still that slight hesitation that's happened only a couple times this week... Is there anything else i should be looking into? I'm thinking one of the sensors I've already replaced may not be giving the proper information to the computer, or maybe I should go ahead and replace the MAP sensor too. I'm not getting the ignition failure code anymore, but it may just take a couple weeks to show up since I had the battery disconnected last week... **Edit** Well, It's been kind of humid here in Denver this week, so I'm going to go ahead and replace the MAP sensor and see if that takes care of this new problem. The original stalling was solved by replacing the Air Charge/Temp sensor. I'll practically have a new jeep by the time I'm done. lol. -Ed

Re: 96 GC Laredo stalling update.
Well, I have a '94 model JGC with the 5.2L and I seem to be having some simular problems. Wonder if our problems could be related and fixed in the same manor?
