VTEC Controller
I have sourced a Spoon VTEC Controller for a JED EF8/EF9. It allows VTEC to cut in at 4800 rpm & redline 8900 rpm. I am told it plugs straight in using the supplied harness.
Does anyone know if I can simply plug it in to my EDM (EE9) Civic? Will I need to change ECU etc??? Thanks. |

Hi,
As far as I know, and I assist in instaling a couple (Apexi and Field), if you have the propper connectors it is very easy, Its like PPP (Plug, play and pray) . If you dont have the propper connectors you will need some tap connectors and it is still easy. Apply the RFM (Read the fu#%ing manual) technique and read the instructions several times untill you feel confortable with the all process, this help a lot. Don't forget to check, double check and tripple check everything before you turn the key on. Good luck.

Do those vtec controllers really work? A friend of mine was thinking of getting one for his GSR...
I would think that the guys at honda knew what they were doing when they set the RPM that vtec engages at... *shrugs* -Grendel |

Yes, they really work. We canīt forget the factory Honda Setup was design to take advantage of the power delivery while saving fuel.
Once you put a VTEC controller, you can take the fuel saving further more or you can improve the engine response starting at 4500 RPM. You take the choice instead of the ECU making the choice. If you are running a trip and you want to save fuel you can set up the VTEC to engage at 6500 RPM and you can save a lot of fuel. On the other end if you are "Racing" the car you can set it up at 4500 and if you shift from 2nd to 3rd you will be allways inside the VTEC power band. Some of the VTEC controllers can also setup the fuel injectors. Regards,

Veetec is absolutely right!
U cant just install the controller and put the kick- in point to 4000! The point must fit ur setup- and if ure running stock I really doubt that ull get any advantage!
