Greetings From A newbe to the Fourm!
![]() I just bought a 2002 Caraven with a 3.3, I know it is winter here but I shure get poor Gas Mileage with this van. About 8 to 11MPG. (town) and about 20-22MPG Highway. Is this normal? Should I get better than this? The engine has 1800 Klm. on it so far. I have been told that once it gets over the 20000klm it will improve. Please help me with this. This is the 3rd Caravan I have owned, I got great mpg with our 90 with the 3ltr. Thanks in advance Tony |

Well Tony, I work for DaimlerChrysler and build the 3.3 & 3.8 engines for your vehicle. I also own a 2001 Town & Country and am sorry to tell you that your right about what it should be. Yes it will improve a little as time goes on, but that is pretty close to advertised. Also driving habits will play part as well. For your city driving I think you will end up around 13 mpg. Highway you are pretty much topped out. New air filter such as K&N might buy you a little mileage.

:alien: hey there- i think it should get a little better with age- my van has 79000 on it and i get 13-17 city and 22-26 hwy. i have the flexible fuel 3.3 and i dont drive like an old lady either. a k&n filter costs 39-45 and will improve mileage a bit. cold weather might have something to do with it too- i live in GA hope this helps!

Did you know......
when you put the defroster on, AIR blower setting for your windshield, your A/C runs too. Its in your manual. I didnt read it and had poor gas milage. One day some one told me and I was supprised. I always left the blower on defrost. Now I only flick the heater selector on the defrost window setting when I really need it! It made a difference!!! Good luck! |

Re: 3.3 Gas Mileage ?
These vans are pretty thisty but they are big too. Theres nothing mini about them. Park next to a full size car they are just as big, at least the Grand Caravans are. If not bigger. The perfect vehicle comfort wise. Well built too, they need a bullit proof trans.

gas mileage on 3.3
I constantly check my mileage on my 98 Grand Caravan Sport with milage overhead computer and around town, I've been getting 20-22mpg. Took a trip out to South Dakota last week and going into an incredible headwind, I could only get 19mpg @ 75 mph. Turning around with the wind the mileage on the same road and speed, easliy increased to 25mpg. I got to pickup one of those K & N airfilters. These vans are heavy and a bit underpowered compared to my other cars so I really take off slow.

My 3.3l Grand Voyager does about 19mpg going to and from work short trips and on a long journey does between 25-30mpg which I am very pleased with.
