fuel pump
o.k. my girlfriend has a 2003 cavalier that needs a fuel pump, i understand it's in the gas tank and it has to come out but my question is the strap on the left side is riveted to a heat shield which is riveted to the body, is there an easier way to get the tank out other than drilling the rivets out.

Re: fuel pump
Metal tin snips and cut the straps.

Re: fuel pump
I'd say it's best to do some more searching on it.
There's bolts holding those straps to the sub-frame somewhere. No way or need to cut the straps.

And second, i'm a pretty big redneck myself and even I know not to cut the straps on my demo cars...you never know if theres a fuel leak or a hole in the tank...so just to be on the safe side, I use a saws-all AKA a recripricating saw (hope I spelt that right!)Anyways, you prolly got-r-did by now, but just a heads up for all you heat bags out there, never use torches around a gas tank, i've seen some close calls, and the outcomes not pretty.
