Checking/Adding ATF to the 4T40E, 4T45E..
For the dipstick-less 4T40E, 4T45E owners, I mocked up this pic compliments of GM showing the locale of the fill port and level check bolt. Keep in mind, to check level, you need to have the car at normal operating temps, idling in park on a level surface. ATF should just dribble out if the level is correct. If you check level with the engine off, about 2-3qts will flow out of the check port.

Re: Checking/Adding ATF to the 4T40E, 4T45E..
Great post. Just in time to do the check on our '03 Malibu.
Any help with a P1815 code and the location of the transmission range sensor? Suggestions for adjustment or replacement of the TRS? Thanks |

Re: Checking/Adding ATF to the 4T40E, 4T45E..
baum- I'm just learning about the 4T45E myself, but the TRS is normally attached to the shift linkage on the trans case. Trace out your shift cable. The cable should terminate right at the TRS. The TRS's job is to tell the PCM what gear the driver has selected. Basically they are just a board/wiper type range switch. Are you sure about the P1815 code? That code = "Transmission 4-Wheel Drive Mode Select Short Circuit To Ground" which obviously doesn't apply to you. TRS codes are typically P0705-709.
