ESP, EPC warning lights

Coming to work this morning the ASR/ESP light came on in my 2003 Turbo S. This has happened before while it was still under warranty, and the cs rep at the dealership said that the mechanic "cleaned the part and didn't see anything wrong, so he put it back in". Now months later, it came on again. In the past when it came on, if I turned the car off and re-started it, the light wouldn't stay on. This morning it did, and 5-10 minutes later the EPC light also came on. I looked these lights up in my owners manual and I don't have a good feeling about this!

Just recently I received a letter from VW about a recall regarding a brake light, I believe. Any chance all this is related? (recall = free repair)

I have to buy back-to-school clothes and supplies for my children this month so money is tight, and I hate my dealership, so any pearls of wisdom would be greatly appreciated!

UPDATE: The cs rep at my dealership said that if the lights weren't red, it was OK to drive the car - is that right??? I made an appointment for Monday to have it looked at. Also, on the way home the EPC light went off, then came back on briefly and went off again, and stayed off until I pulled into my parking spot at work this morning. I have a 25-mile commute each way. ????? The ASR/ESP light is still showing yellow continually.

Thanks,
Candee
