Chevy s10 'Want more'
I have a 95 chevy s10 with the vortec v6 4.3L. I have really two questions.. How come the starter for a 95 chevy s10 wont work but 96 does.. Is it because it actually a 96 block and trany.. I really dont know... also as far as i know the truck has 2 injectors is this true.. Any one know of any cheap lil tricks that i can do to get more power. I flipped the airfileter cap over so it can gain more air flow i noticed a significant difference there.. I want to go turbo'd or Scharged.. but i dont know if the 4.3 is worth doing this too? Any help let me know

Re: Chevy s10 'Want more'
if you have the 95 4.3 (intake manifold has the raised runners and the black plastic vortech cover) then you are fairly limited on mods. That engine has one injection unit, refered to as the cpi unit (central port injection). it has 6 individual nozzles, 1 per cylinder, that are all fired at once. There is not a strong aftermarket following for this engine but the basic lower cost mods that come to mind are a performance exhaust, intake, aftermarket ignition with more powerful coil and larger plug wires, 1.6 roller rockers, under drive pulleys, and an electric fan. As far as forced induction, there was a supercharger kit made a very long time ago that was discontinued but no other kits exisit for this engine. The factory MAP sensor does not read boost so a replacement would be needed. I would not recomend going with forced induction on a stock CPI engine. Now if you wanted to get serious you could completely tear the engine apart and rebuild it with forged internals, new or ported stock heads, and replace the CPI with MPFI. A member on this forum, Blazer SS, has a 98 blazer with a fully built engine with the vortech supercharger kit so if you have any specific questions about a 4.3 performance build up, he's the guy to ask. The problem here is you have now probably exceeded your trucks value with the cost of these aftermarket parts plus labor if your not mechanically inclinded. So is it worth it, i say no, but only you can make that decision.

Re: Chevy s10 'Want more'
Umm.. Here is the thing
My engine the only injectors that i have found are 2 in the throttle body.. But i dont have the plastic cover with vortec.. Thats another reason i think its the 96 engine and tranny.. also, I bought a starter for the 95 engine vortec v6 and everything did not work for mine it was designed for the other side, So i tryed a 96 starter and it worked great any other advice? |

Re: Chevy s10 'Want more'
someone could have swapped in a 96 block if the original was blown and stuck the 95 VIN Z intake and TB on top. with that set up you could run a supercharger if the engine internals were built up but for the cost involved its not worth it. It would be cheaper to swap in a 350.

Re: Chevy s10 'Want more'
if you swap to a carb the engine would be easier to tune but you still have the same engine under that carb so for forced induction you would have the same issues. as for the LS1 swap, that is more expensive and more involved that a regular sbc swap. you need an LS engine w/97 vette accessories, matching trans, ecu w/ wiring harness, new motor mounts, custom headers, different oil pan, etc. now if you did say a 350 swap, you could use your original TB (but with V8 injectors), your stock computer (reflashed), all of your front accessories, and posible be able to reuse your stock auto trans.
