Aftermarket radio and display help?

Hey, I have a 2004 Grand Prix GT. I just intalled my aftermarket radio and everything seems to be working except the date on the display system no longer appears. I can set it to the correct date, but it quickly disappears. Is there a way to retain the date display on the car, or do I need to have the stock radio connected?

Thanks for any replies.

Yes, you may have to relocate the factory one. You can buy relocation kits for a reasonable price. Maybe try ebay, or i think crutchfield.com might even have installation guides.

Re: Aftermarket radio and display help?

I have a 2004 GT with a nice aftermarket radio with the same problem so I just have the dash display show milage.

These reloaction kits put the stock radio somewhere else in the car, thereby having both radios hooked up, and that way the display works properly?

Re: Aftermarket radio and display help?

I am having the exact same issue with my 04 GT. I just put in a Kenwood X891 deck with an expensive aftermarket harness including the GM Chime feature to eliminate routing the old stereo to the trunk. Since I have installed it, the date does not list the day of the week anymore. I also get a default screen which is -- ---------- -- instead of the date. I've had 2 starts where the car says LOW FUEL and my Traction Control is disabled. Something funky going on, and I have no idea what else to try. I'm also using a Peripheral steering wheel adapter, which is working fine. I have no issues with sound output, so nothing is crossed or poorly setup.

Oh, one other issue that is weird, is the DIC sometimes just turns off like it's off until I hit a button!?

Anyone have any other ideas/links to more info? If so, please post! I am so anal about things not being perfect, this is causing me to lose sleep (sadly)!
