Team Honda Pons RC211V '03 - Max Biaggi

After building V. Rossi's #46, I was bitten by the motorcycle bug. They're nice and big, easy to work with and detail. This is the start of my second bike. I picked it up for $10 on ebay, and the seller shipped with it the Tech 3 Yamaha. Not bad for $10. I couldn't justify buying the Camel decals as they would have been almost twice as much as the model itself. So...OOB build with the kit decals. Color is duplicolor School Bus Yellow enamel, with no clear. Most of it was polished AFTER decals were applied. This enamel paint polishes up great!

I always like starting out with the wheels. They were painted with Testors gloss black.

The chrome was stripped and painted with Color Places Aluminum. It's the Wal Mart $0.99 cent special. Takes F O R E V E R to dry, but looks pretty good when it does. Next time, I'm going to stick with the Tamiya chrome.

Front and side cowls. The decals went on beautifully and the color matches pretty well.

Some of the parts mocked up:

And with the cowls, and tire added:

Thanks for looking! Comments appreciated!

Wow,that looks really good.Nice paint work and great job on the decals. The chrome you used on the frame looks better in my opinion than the Tamiya chrome plating which tends to look a little bright on some of their models.Look forward to seeing more. You have a very clean style of building.

Here's a quick update. Not happy with the metallic brown object on the side of the engine. Paint peeled off when I picked it up. I'll have to redo it... I'm going to have to also touch up the X-18 as the masking line is a little jagged. Might just be because we're looking at it about 2x larger than it really is!

Yes, photo skills are out of this world compared to what most of us acomplish. Very nice build so far. I didn't get if the blue parts of the cowls are painted on or decals. If painted, it looks really good, if decals, WOW!

Yellow paint looks really great as well!

Thanks Joel. The blue are the Tamiya decals. I've always thought their decals are top notch! Took a bit of Solvaset to make them conform, but they turned out pretty good.

If you want, I can take some blurry shots as well!

Some small progress today. I picked up one of Revell's custom choppers and got side tracked with that one a little bit...

Re: Team Honda Pons RC211V '03 - Max Biaggi

Small update. Tried heat staining the exhaust. My first attempt at it, so I'm kinda on the fence. I used dollar store eye shadow then shot clear over it so it didn't smudge off. It's more convincing in real life, to be sure.

Mocked up with the exhaust temprarily in place:

All looks very good. The eye shadow method of heat staining is a lot like the Tamiya weathering powders. It looks quite effective.I really like the different colours of the engine,it looks very realistic,as does the chain.I'm looking forward to more updates.

Thanks Steve. I haven't tried the Tamiya yet. I picked up 2 different cases, one browns and one blues for $1 each!

I'm using your Hayabusa thread as a guide for mine (it was delivered today). Add it to the to do list.

Sorry, don't know a thing about resin casting. I've broken a few Tamiya parts, and have had great luck with their customer service. I've always gotten the replacement parts in less than a week. Good luck
