Service Engine Soon Light - Solved!

97 Geo Tracker, light has been on for 7 years. Have never found the problem. Moved to Atlanta, had to pass emissions-failed because of the unknown light. Spent almost $2000 replacing items, rebuilt EMC, O2 sensor, noids, you name it. Stayed off for a day, passed emissions then IMMEDIATELY turned back on. A miracle.

A month ago, started adding a slight bit of acetone to a full tank of gas. Did it maybe every other fill-up. Poof!! Light off, has stayed off for 2 months! BUT somehow sheared the tooth off the timing gear, so it wouldn't accelerate. Fixed it by re-timing it 2 notches back. Idles a little slow, need to adjust it alittle more. Otherwise runs great now!

Do some research on the acetone thing. Lots of pros and cons info out there. Might not work for you, but it did for me!!: iceslolan
