stuck in the mud

So here’s how the story goes:

6 in the afternoon and I’m leaving work to meet someone…well on the way the lil path catches my eye, so I figure I got time and make a u-turn…well I decide go down the path to see where it goes…went through some deep ruts and get to a large mud puddle…common sense told me to back up…but I went anyway…turned out to be deeper than I expected and I get stuck…there was such a sharp incline going in that my spare and hitch we on the ground and my rear wheels couldn’t touch the ground

So fast forward past me walking to Food Lion, friend not willing to risk getting stuck, and me ending back at work..

Well I call around and the average price to get me out was $65+…well I didn’t have that much and there was no way I could get back to the truck b/c I was stuck at work…so I do the only thing I could do…went on the Land Cruiser forums I was a member of to find anyone in NC that was online. I sent a coupe pm’s and mtweller from IH8MUD replied…he was willing to help a fellow fzj80 owner who was in a pinch

Well he get here and we ride down to where my I was stuck at about 11pm (4 hours after I got stuck) and see that the water level went down about a foot (front wheels were covered up to the fender)…so we get hooked up and on the second attempt after readjusting his truck he was able to pull me free…wife wasn’t even upset that I got HER fzj80 stuck in the first place.

Myself after playing in the mud in my work clother

Inside needs to be cleaned

Re: stuck in the mud

Glad you got out okay. Stay away from the mud. It sucks.

Re: stuck in the mud

I was the hero of the day yesterday. I was doing the whole length of Pinnacle Mtn. Rd. from the beginning at Green River Rd. (deep in the woods along the SC/NC border to the end which is right off of Old Greenville Hwy in Zirconia/Flat Rock, NC (the end of the Jeep trail is right in the middle of a high class neighborhood). So the trail starts getting a little rougher and there are rocks and ruts and mud holes here and there on the sides for playing in. This is clearly a 4x4 zone. And I come across a Wrangler stuck in the mud. He had no grip with his BFG A/Ts. Another fwd car had no luck helping him out. The guy had no reception on his cell phone. My Jeep lacks a tow hook, a hitch or any sort of thing to attach the strap too. But the guy must've knew what he was doing because he wrapped the strap around the rear axle of my Jeep in such a way that it did not mess with anything. And all it took was a little nudge in 1st gear in 4wd low and saved the day. Woohoo.

My wife was a bit worried because strangers in the forest. They were just glad we came along. It was like 6pm and miles from anything. The one dude tried to offer me 20 bucks but I told him to keep his money. I told him that I would just be happy if he did the same for me if I needed help. Then we went about our way. The trail further on was much rougher with more mud holes on the sides. The car was smart to go the other direction. I had the video camera too but didn't film it nor did I film the rough stuff. Turtle truck saves the day...

Re: stuck in the mud

You may want to get something so that if you get stuck they’ll have something to attach to your Jeep…I have 2 tow hooks in the front, one in the back, and the hitch…I’d consider getting a hitch or something…you sure you don’t have any tow hooks in the front?

Re: stuck in the mud

No hooks. My Jeep was a company vehicle that is pretty basic body wise. When it's paid off I'm going to have my wife's brother hook it up. He worked on the Ken Shupe's rock crawler...

I don't ever go near the mud... especially not with the Michellin LTX M/S tires... LOL

Re: stuck in the mud

if you still go off road it may be in your best bet to get a hitch and something like this

Re: stuck in the mud

Definitely. I've sorta planned it out. I want to get a tow hitch in the rear, bull bar in the front, fog lights and Bridgestone Dueler Revos... then maybe a 3" lift...
