Where did you buy your relay from? Are there any good websites to order from? What part number did you use?

Re: 2003 Jeep GC overheating in idle

For those of you following this fix, I took some photos of the relay as I was fixing it. It sure was troublesome to reach: I had to take the front bumper facia off as well as the headlamp and inner grill in order to get to the relay. Why Chrysler put it here is beyond me. I paid $70 at AutoZone for the relay but it seems like others paid less elsewhere. The relay is a simple pull-and-replace type and screws into the frame of the front fender. After replacing the relay and putting the bumper and grill back together I tested the fan by letting the Jeep warm up to normal temp. The fan came on as expected with the temp needle at the 12 o'clock position and also came on when the AC was turned on. Definately a fix that is do-able by someone with average experience with tools and cars (me).

Here's a closeup of the position of the relay:

I can only guess they must be trying to get it away from the heat in the engine compartment.

Excellent photo's, they beat that diagram in Haynes by miles. I can see them helping future Jeepers for sure.

Re: 2003 Jeep GC overheating in idle

I hate to bump up old threads but I am having the exact same problem in my 2001 Jeep. The reason I bumped this thread is because everyone was talking about how great and detailed the pictures are and I need something of that quality so I can fix this problem.

Does anyone have the pics that were hosted on flickr that are currently not working? This will enable me to see the area and work on fixing the issue.

Thanks in advance for the assistance.

Re: 2003 Jeep GC overheating in idle

the pics aren't here but pull the passenger headlight and loosen your front bumper the best you can and you'll find it. the relay is directly under the headlight it's dumb when you look at it but doable once you see it
