Exclamation Transmission shifting/speedometer issue

My Car Doesnt Seem To Want To Shift Out Of First Gear And My Speedometer Doesnt Work. This Only Happens Occasinally And The Speedometer Only Doesnt Work When The Car Wont Shift Wat Is Wrong And How Do I Fix It..?? 1997 Taurus Gl 3.0 6cyl

There's a good chance you have a faulty VSS (vehicle speed sensor). If you stand on the drivers side of the engine compartment, and look down on an angle toward the passenger side of the transmission, right under the exaust there is a heat sheild. Under that heat sheild is where the VSS is located, it should be held in place by a single 8mm bolt.

A 1/4" ratchet, 8mm socket, swivel (with some tape around it to make it stiff ) and a bunch of extensions should do it. I wouldn't try to tackle this with a hot engine BTW.
