99 suburban 6.5 engine "stutter"

I have a 99 suburban 6.5L turbo diesel with 95K miles. Back in Feb. while driving the engine would "stutter" meaning it felt like a momentary loss of power and you felt like the truck was going to stall. Over a period of about to weeks this problem got much worse and included very difficult starts where I would have to crank th engine for 10-15 seconds 3 or 4 times before it would start and then it would idle very rough or stall. Anyways I finally had it towed to the dealer and they replaced the fuel lift pump and fuel filter. The problem seemed to solved, but I swore that the start ups and driving were not as smooth as it was before these problems began. My wife told me it was just my imagination and that it was fixed, but yesterday about 2 months since the lift pump was replace the stutter returned. It did it about 4 or 5 times in 10 miles of hiway driving.
My question is, if the lift pump is bad again there must something causing it to go bad hence my feeling that it never was quite right. Any ideas would be greatly appreicated.

Fuel filter?
Check fuel pressure to injector pump.
Any engine codes?
It might help to take it back to the dealer and have them check it over again.

The fuel filter has been change regularly and was changed at the same time as the lift pump and there has not been a SES light so I am not sure about any codes. I intend to return to the dealer and will ask about checking the pressure. Thanks.

Your PMD is bad. PMD = Pump Mounted Driver. Its an electronic control box that GM put on the side of the injection pump, a very poor place. It gets way too hot. If your 'burb has less than 120k miles on it, a dealer should replace it at no cost. for more info, www.dieselplace.com

Re: 99 suburban 6.5 engine "stutter"

you were correct my PMD was bad. My service advisor had no idea about the warranty, but after forcing them to investigate they fixed it, but it took two weeks. I think it got put on the warranty work "back burner". Although they did charge me a $100.00 warranty deductilble. Has anyone heard of this or did I get rippped off?

Thanks for the info. I called the dealer and spoke to the person who processes the warranty work and he refunded my money.
