i think my clutch is going (suggestions welcome)

well i got up today and drove to work my clutch pedal goes almost to the floor before it ingages. i mean prob about 1-2 inches before it hits the floor. i hope it will work its way out but i have a bad feeling it wont. i havnt been racing so i dont know what the deal is. So if im right in guessing my clutch has one foot in the grave what should i do. ive looked at ACT clutchMasters and excedy. all around 300 bucks. will and after market clutch last longer then a stock one. i want something that will last a long time. will the above clutches last as long as stock or longer with the same driving habits? any other good drands? are all these ok? and lastly what will it cost to put one in at a shop? is it something a normal person can do?

Sounds like the brake fluid in the Clutch master cylinder reservoir is low. Try checking it and adding more as necessary.

I think I have a problem with my clutch as well. Can you guys here your clutch when you push it in. It sounds very much like a old door opening or like when you jump on a old mattress. Also when you push it all the way down should it feel squishy. Like your mashing a bug. It only feels squishy all the way down.

It's normal for older cars, mine does it, it's a 95. As long as it grabs the way it's supposed to at the right pedal travel, it'll be fine.

Well if you have a cable tranny, it sounds like it needs to be adjusted, other wise I'd expect you have a hydro tranny. If it's hydro, then definately check your clutch master clinder for enough fluid and if it bottomed out your gonna have to bleed your clutch to get the air out of the line. Otherwise, if its full, you may want to try bleelding it anyways.

You're welcome.

This is why it upsets me to see ppl automatically say "Get a stage 50 ACT". A little common sense and a manual will save you a lot of money.

well you're definently in bad shape if your clutch engages near the floor...

Be careful, those things don't drain for no reason. You might have a leak somewhere... Check it often so you don't get caught up the creek...
