Only Chevy Engines easily fit '64 Impala?
Hi
I have been on the phone to a guy who believes he has a '62-64 2 bbl. rebuilt 283 engine but the block casting # he has (if he is correct) are 789935 which don't show up on my mortec.com list of chevy engines. (I have not been able to find casting # lists of other GM engines, if there are such a thing. (The guy got the engine from a man as payment for a debt who moved away) I know some of the early 350 's would not fit interchangeably in chevys or say, Buicks. Any ideas. Thanks Rick

Re: Only Chevy Engines easily fit '64 Impala?
Any Gen I SBC engine made from 1955-2003 will bolt right in. The 348/409s should also fit with the proper mounts. Many other engines can be made to fit with minor alteration.
If you are planning to keep the car as original as possible, the 283 might be a good choice. If you put a "3" on the front of that casting number, you should find all you need about it.

The original 55-56 265 V-8 and 57 283 do not have side motor mount castings in the block which your '64 would require. Make sure you look for that.........Steve
