96' Taurus GL Transmission jerk after turning
96 Taurus GL 144,000 miles
The transmission seems to give a jerk, like an extra hard shift only after going around turns, or while actually going around the turn if you are giving the car any gas at all. The previous owner said it might be a good idea to get the transmission flushed and get "heavy-duty" transmission fluid put in. What should I do? |

Re: 96' Taurus GL Transmission jerk after turning
Inspect or have a professional inspect the inner and outer constant velocity (CV) joints. If one of the outer joints is bad, it could cause noises during turns. If an inner joint is bad, it will typically cause noise on acceleration, straightline or in turns.
Check the level and condition of the transmission fluid. If the fluid is brown and/or has a strong odor, then it is overdue to be replaced. Have the fluid replaced along with a new transmission filter. Check the magnet in the tranny drain pan for excessive amounts of metal filings (some small fragments is normal). Unless it's just been changed recently, this is probably a good maintenance item anyway, even if the fluid seems okay. Use the fluid that is recommended for the transmission, not some other "heavy duty" fluid. The manufacturer-recommended fluid is formulated specifically for the particular friction surfaces in your transmission. Incorrect fluid can actually cause slipping, harsh engagement, and premature component wear/failure. -Rod |

air in the power steering. Bleed the power steering. Or, motor and tranny mounts.
