Smile Fan switch camry 2000

Hi:

My fan switch seems to work only on speeds 3 and 4 and not on 1 and 2. Really strange. All fuses seem to be OK. Is there anything I can check to see why this is happening? Is it a bad switch? AC is too cold on speed 3!

Also, how can I remove the switch. What do i need to remove?

hnks.

All your answers should be in the Camry Service Manuals thread at the top of the forum. Just click on your model year.

You can confirm if the switch is bad or not using the system schematic and a multimeter. Other areas of the manual explain how to remove components.

Re: Fan switch camry 2000

Your problem sounds like a defective blower motor resistor. Do a search for blower motor resistor and read up about it. It has been covered many times.

Re: Fan switch camry 2000

HI:

You were right. It was the blower resistor. On a 2000 camry, it is located on the passenger side about 2 inches above your left foot on the heater/AC duct. It has 2 screws holding it in place with a 4-wire harness.

Anyone else need more info on this just let me know. I'll explain how I tested it.

Thanks.

Glad it's working again for you and just in time for the A/C season.

Re: Fan switch camry 2000

Hi.

I have the same problem with my Camry 97 2.2L A/C blower speed. It only works on the lowest speed. I would be very interested on how you diagnosed
the problem.

Thanks.

Jeff

Re: Fan switch camry 2000

Hi:

The easiest thing to check is the blower resistor. For 1997-2001 camries, it is located as mentioned in my previous reply.

Steps to remove:

1. Remove the plastic cover above the feet on the passenger side
2. Find the fan motor and follow the wires to the resistor block on the AC/Heater duct. (4 wires and a harness plug)
3. Remove the harness by pressing in the tab and pulling the connector off the block.
3. Get a ratched with a philips #2 bit or a short philips #2 screwdriver
4. Remove the 2 screws holding the resistor block to the duct.
5. Remove the the resistor block.
6. If it looks old and rusty chances are, this is your problem.

But before you replace the resistor,

1. Turn your ignition to the on position
2. Connect a jumper wire from one terminal on the harness to another terminal.
3. If the fan motor does not come on, try another terminal. Do this until all terminals have been tried. The fan motor should come on full blast.
4. If the motor comes on full blast, then you need to replace your resistor block.
5. If the motor never comes on, you have a faulty switch or motor.

Let me know how it turned out.

Good luck.
