This has happend to me before with my 97 Firebird. Sometimes it will even cut out when driving. The last time this happened, a guy stopped to help me and he said he bled the air out of the fuel rail via. a valve near the enjectors. He also said to never run less than half a tank of gas. If this is the case, how do I bleed air out? the valve is a little hard to push in. Also is there a sensor of some kind that will not let the fuel pump kick in when you try to start?

Re: Car won't start (Fuel Pump or line?)
Fuel injection systems are self bleeding. On a Mopar or Ford injection system I would say; yes don't run it below half a tank but the GM systems have the pumps sitting down in a sump at the very bottom of the tank and are always submerged in fuel. The others I've seen have the pump almost half way up the sender with a pickup tube going to the bottom of the tank. Run them too much when low on gas and you can burn up the pump (no fuel to cool it).
There is no sensor that will prevent the pump from running, but there is a relay that can burn out and not let the pump run until the oil pressure switch closes (long cranking time will do this) |

Re: Car won't start (Fuel Pump or line?)
If your car has an inertia switch and it's tripped it'll knock out your ignition and fuel system. make sure to reset that if it has gone off. (good luck getting to it) and yah ur pump could've overheated from the lack of fuel in the tank. when you fill up with gas do you completely top it off,via keep clicking the handle until it cant fit aymore gas in your tank ? if u do you might have ruined your charcoal canister.

Re: Car won't start (Fuel Pump or line?)
clogged fuel pump maybe. why would you not want to run less than half a tank of gas? then you have to fill up once a week if not more. If it was bad to run less than a half a tank, the dealer would say so.
