looking for checker cab in the northeast

im looking for an authentic checker cab near connecticut. i found 1 that has more bondo on it than it might be worth. im supprised these cars are all m.i.a. thought theyd be sitting in a lot rotting away outside manhattan somewhere. im looking to build a street rod, but it has to be a former working cab..prefferably with a meter and the booster seats and the taxi sign on top. any help would be appreciated...thanks

Re: looking for checker cab in the northeast

im so dissapointed in the lack of checker cabs around. i live about 40 minutes outside of manhattan. there were thousands of these cars all over the place not that long ago. ive found a few here or there. either so expensive a regular guy like me couldnt afford or in such bad shape it could have been virtiualy sculpted out of bondo. these were one of the symbol american cars of my time. i miss them damn it. id love to do one some respect and bring it back to its glory but it doesnt look likely to happen. did these cars go to mexico? or some other foriegn country? or where they victims of the car crusher?
