98 Malibu break issues

My ABS and brake lights are on. They come on after I release the (held down) brake when I crank the car. At the same time there is a noise coming from the hydraulic modulator.

I am sure the modulator is bad my question is, is this a DIY project?
Can the individual valves be replaced or should I replace the entire assembly?
Thanks for any advice in advance.

Personally, I divide the line at Life and I'll go with Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. Brakes - That's a Life matter if you don't kniow what you are doing. ads - all day will I dio it myself. ABS, Modulator -read up and get comfortable - or go to the pros.
