Engine Splash Apron: What is this?

I think My engine splash aprons rusted off of my engine block.

I spilled like 3 quarts of trans fluid. Stoped the car. When I popped the hood - there was a flattish piece of metal IN the engine area.

It looks like to came off the bottom side of the engine. THere seems to be one on the driver's side of the engine also.

Could this have severed a line causing the trans fluid to leak?

Can you post a pic?

Have you refilled your tranny prior to driving?
