1999 malibu stereo level converter

hello, if any of you could help me.. i got a system for my '99 malibu and i bought a stereo level converter for it since i still have the stock radio.. the only problem is.. i don't know what wires to hook the converter to and how to not disconnect the stock radio because it has a anti theft system on it and i do not have the code so i wouldn't be able to fix it if i disconnected it.. thanks...

Re: 1999 malibu stereo level converter

Your LOC (Line output converter) should have instructions. Depending on the model of the LOC, some differences may exist, but the accepted generic is as follows.. (at least my accepted generic. lol)

Your loc may have 6 wires.. A left speaker input positive wire, and negative wire, a right speaker input positive wire and negative, a Positive power wire, and a ground wire.

Simply tap the wires for your rear speakers and wire them up appropriately to each speaker.

Run your positive from the Line output converter to a hot in ignition wire. I usually hook it to the Remote wire for the amp, but I dont know your exact setup. My amp's remote is hooked into the power sunroof wires, as my car doesnt have a sunroof. Use a testlight/multimeter, and good judgement.

Next, hooking of the ground wire, this step is CRUITIAL for good sound quality. Your ground on the LOC must be hooked up to the ground on the radio. It may be a seperate wire, or it may be a chassis grouns. It must be hooked into the ground to prevent noise coming from the various electrical components of the car.

Finally, hook your RCA cables from the amp to the LOC, if your lock has a gain control on it (control knob on top) turn each to 0 before plugging everything in. Then adjust the inputs slowly until youve reached what you require.

Hope that helps..
