Clicking from under car?

Hey guys, my sister's neon is making a horrible clicking sound equivelent to CV joints but its not cause it does it even while driving straight. What do you think it could be? Its a clicking/popping coming from the steering arms/transmission area.. Thanks

Re: Clicking from under car?

If the CV joints are bad enough, they will click even when driving straight ahead. If they are that bad its also time to stop driving it, as the joints can sieze up on a turn. It can also be the joints at the inner end of the axle shafts. You can check to see which side it is by jacking up one side of the car, so the front wheel on that side is in the air. Then put the car in gear, and see if the noise is present.
You can get a louder clicking noise by driving it along side the wall of a brick commercial building or at the back of a strip mall. Have a windown down. All of the mechanical noises are reflected back very well.
