Wink Advice on 94 Supra Purchase

I'm considering buying a 94 Supra, non-turbo 5spd, targa top.

I want the non-turbo because I'm going to put a single turbo on whatever model I buy, so I'd rather not bother with a TT.

My question is this: is the non-turbo Supra bottom-end the same as the TT? Do I have reliability issues to worry about if not?

I'm going to put a fairly large turbo on it, so I want it to be strong.

Thanks.

I think the only thing you would have to worry about is the compression ratio, obviously, its gonna be lower in the turbo version than the normally aspirated one...

Not only is the compression ratio different, there are 'oil squirters' that spray oil on the bottom of pistons in the turbo shortblock, and these squirters are not present in the n/a.

Most importantly, the head is radically different in the non-turbo model. For example, the turbo model has one coilpack per cylinder, an 'igniter', and an ecu-driven ignition system. The n/a model has a distributor.

This engine has significant power potential, but it is not on par with the turbo engine.

Get the TT version, too much hassle to get an NA to turbo and have it work good.

the TT has the 2JZ-GTE, with a bullet proof bottom end. I don't know if the non-turbo one is nearly as strong.
