86 2m4 starts but dies when i press the gas

i have an 86 2m4 that has a bad attitude.
last week it was working fine, i parked it, came back outside later and it just wouldnt start. after i sprayed a little gas into the top, i was able to get it started but it would idle super high, then drop and die. and when i pressed the gas pedal down it would die even faster. i could/can only keep it alive by tapping the gas pedal over and over.

i checked the fuel pump fuse... didnt know whether that would contribute to the problem or not... and im just stumped...

some help would be appreciated!
