2000 Winstar Electrical Schematics? (Still fuse #6)

Hi, I'm looking for electrical schematics. I found the ford CD's online but they don't have circuit diagrams. I'm dealing with fuse #6 still blowing the second a fuse is inserted. I have pulled ALL other fuses under the dash -AND- all 6 relays under the dash and it still does it.

I need more information to find out where fuse #6 goes -exactly- (I already know the systems it goes to).

Any info? Will a haynes or chiltons manual have that info?

Thanks.

My Haynes manual has it.
You should also check out if your library has online access to Automotive Repair Reference Centre (ARRC). Our library does and it lists all the repair procedures for every car. I just go to our librarie's web site, select databases, then ARRC and get my information.

Hello

Did you see my post to you about using a light bulb instead of a fuse for testing? Using the bulb will allow you to disconnect items while having current to the system.

Regards

Dan

Dan, yes, thank you. I may use that technique. I have been trying to do my homework in the meantime though so i can approach it armed with useful information. I have now learned the locations of most of these systems and just wanted to read the circuit to better learn its nature.

Also, doesn't the lightbulb leave a possibility open for current to flow when it shouldn't be (which is why the fuse is blowing)?

I figured I'd disconnect all the devices that fuse #6 feeds, replace the fuse, ensure it hasn't blown. Then plug the devices in one at a time until the fuse blows.

Please let me know because if I'm missing something here that may be of use to me I really need to know. I hope to work on it this weekend.

Thanks!

The idea of using a lamp in place of a fuse is a good one. The lamp can greatly limit the current .... whereas a fuse is a short circuit that doesn't limit current ... until it blows. The more wattage the lamp ... the more the resistance ... the smaller the current allowed through the lamp.

An old blown fuse makes a good "fixture" to solder a lamp onto.

Found it! It ended up being money (coins) in the tape deck. I guess when my wife hit a bump they shifted inside the radio and shorted something. Funny thing is, in my old saturn I had the same problem many years ago. Tape deck was malfunctioning, bought a new one off ebay, when removing the old one it rattled and all kinds of money came out of it. My kids are old enough now that I don't think it was them this time... perhaps from the previous owner??? Anyhow, problem solved. Now just need to disassemble the radio and see if I can remove the money then see if it still works!
