Should I buy this Mazada626?

Hey Mazda Owners,

I am looking to purchase this vehicle but first I wanted to know if this is a reliable car and if there are any cons in buying this car. Please give me your experience as a owner of this vehicle. Oh this is "2001". Thanks in advance.

Re: Should I buy this Mazada626?

If it is a 4 cyl with an automatic transmission I would skip it. The transmissions were from Ford and based on my experience Mazda and Ford never fully fixed the problems. If it is a 6 cyl then I have every confidence in the car. I have bought and resold five Mazda's in the last two years and really do like the cars (solid, well put together, etc) but have no confidence in the 4 cyl auto transmission. Good Luck.

Yeah ford auto trannies don't have a good rep... I'm not sure about the '01 but our '96 626 (yes, 4 cyl auto tranny!) has over 160K miles on the original tranny... so if you maintain it you should get good use out of it. Every car is different though.

Re: Should I buy this Mazada626?

in reference to this 2001 626 2.0 liter engine, does anyone know if the engine is an interference engine or freewheeling? this is important to know since it may break a timing belt and bend valves if it is an interference engine.

Mazda's t-belt motors are typically freewheeling, while the chain drive ones tend to be benders
