Re: Where to buy 98 Taurus brake lines

I've had the same problem over the years finding brake lines for my vehicles. Where I live, they use a lot of salt on the roads in the winter, so our brake and gas lines rust out prematurely. I ended up buying metal line at the auto parts store and using a tubing bender( also bought at the auto parts store) to match the factory bends. The store also sells any needed fittings to make the lines work. Make sure you save the old ones and be careful removing them from the car to be able to match up the proper fittings and locations of the bends. Once you get them out of the car, you can take them in with you to get the proper diameter , length, and check for the proper ends.

Grab a phone book and call all the parts houses and if no go then I gues you'll have to pay Ford extravagant prices or do the home grown number and make 'em yourself.

Re: Where to buy 98 Taurus brake lines

How are the fittings on your old line? What I had to do in the past when I came across a similar situation was to cut the end off a new steel line and re-use the fittings from the old OEM line,( mine were still in good shape, usually the ends are still good if they haven't been stripped where the line itself goes bad.)then make the necessary flare on the end of the line. There is a tool kit you can buy,(I got mine at Autozone as part of a kit that has a tool that flares the ends, once you install the used fittings, and has pieces to help bend the tubes. If I remember correctly it cost me around $25 a few years ago, and it had various pieces to make special flares on the end of the line(s) )
