I have noticed that the climate control unit on my 91 crx si is crap. I'm currently searching for a new one on ebay and the first one I purchased came with cracks on every mounting tab (the seller told me this thing was in "excellent" condition...yeah right!).
Anyway, since I'm still searching for a pristine replacement I thought I'd come here and ask you wise folks if you know of any aftermarket replacement units that won't crack apart after a few years of service. OR. Is there a modification that I can perform to make this thing more stable. OR Is there a different year/ make of honda climate control unit that can be used to replace this one? Any info would be greatly appreciated. |

Re: 88-91 crx climate control unit issues
use this link and do what it says, http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1434022
this little swap will look, nicer, work better, and the accord unit is much easier to find in good condition. Any crx unit will be in horrible shape and are prone to cracking. I did this in mine and aside from having to replace one of the bulbs in it, mine has worked great and i've recieved many compliments on how nicely it compliments the car. This is the page where I found the link..it has a lot of info everyone on here might be interested in: http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread/1508680

Re: 88-91 crx climate control unit issues
Yeah its almost like these things were designed to crack apart on contact with human hands. Mine WAS in pristine shape, till i touched it and it broke in 2 pieces and all the tabs fell off...oh well. I would go with the accord setup or get a cover plate or something off of ebay or make it yourself, they epoxy onto the front of the unit and hold it all together. As for the tabs, epoxy some metal ones on and call it a day.
Something like http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Civic...spagenameZWDVW Is what I was referring to, you can also find them in plastic, not CF and they are cheaper.
