Car won't move > Inspect the linkage off the shift lever and make sure it is still connected to the transmission. Make sure the transmission and differential fluids are full. Drop the transmission fluid pan and change the fluid and filter. If you see metal shavings in the pan, rebuild the transmission.

Car shuts off > Read the error codes by shorting pins T and E1 on the diagnostic connector under the hood or dash. A paperclip works well as a shorting tool. Turn the key to on (not start) and count the check engine light flashes. Flash, flash pause flash would be code 21. There will be a longer pause between codes. An error code will identify a faulty system or component. Your check engine light indicates the computer has stored a code and is waiting for you to read it.

Where did the smoke come from?

You need to get this car in the hands of someone who knows something about cars.
