I just got this car and it seems to be in great shape but theres two odd things
the airbag light just started coming on it blinks twice then nothing then blinks once. then nothing then repeats the cycle. The second thing is there is a wire under the passenger seat it looks like it has a cb hookup on it and it said antenna on the wire. what the heck is this for? I was thinking of splicing into it to connect to my alarms sytem antenna i thought it would give a better range and signal any ideas? |

Re: 1995 Crown Vic airbag light and wire under seat?
Hello:
Regarding the airbag code for your vehicle, a code 21 indicates the airbag control unit is not properly mounted to the vehicle. If you decide to work on this system, please unplug the batttery and wait 10 minutes for the system to power down. A wrong connection, or touching a wire inappropriately could deoploy the airbags. The control unit is a blue box, mounted to the right of the glove box (after you remove the glove box). It has two gray connectors attached to it. It should be fastened to the inner frame of the vehicle, however it is not necessary to ground the unit...that is done internally Regarding the wire under the seat, it sounds like it may be from an old CB radio that was removed and the just left the wire hanging there.

Re: 1995 Crown Vic airbag light and wire under seat?
The antenna wire under the seat - Is this an old police unit? If that where for a police radio, is the antenna still there, it may have been removed and the wire cut. Unless the alarm system has a coax connecter it will not work. IIf the antenna was for police or cb, it probably would not work anyway, wrong impedance. Unless the alarm is capable of using a cb antenna, I would stick to the standard car antenna, many cb antennas are base loaded and will limit the effective range of the alarm signal.

Re: 1995 Crown Vic airbag light and wire under seat?
That is a self contained antenna. I don't know of a way to increase range on one of them other than running it around the front window. The last time I installed one like that, I just pressed the wire into the urethane around the front winshield. The wire was long enough to go around the right side of the windshield and 2/3 of the way across the top. The alarm box was installed behind and above the glove box. And above the airbag. If you are going to install this there, be sure to disconnect the battery and wait several minutes before working near the air bag.

Re: 1995 Crown Vic airbag light and wire under seat?
as for the 21 code how can i check the grounding. you said it was self grounding does that mean it somehow has gotten loose from the body and i will just need to tighten the unit or will i more than likely have to replace the unit and if so where can i find a new one anfd any ide what it will run me?
