Question About My A/c???

i jumped the a/c directly to the compressor because before it would go on for about 3 secs and turn off and constantly do that and when i jumped it i left it on for about 3 to 4 min and the air still didnt get cold but... the pipes started to frost up any ideas|???

Two possibilities; the blend door is stuck, or given your previous post, a clogged line.

well when you jump the A/C that compressor should run constantly. however if the pipes began to frost up, then that really does leave me to believe that there might be a block somewhere.

when I turn my A/C on on my 98 Laredo I would say the compressor cycles every 8-12 seconds when you first start it up on a hot day, then it cycles in longer durations. i agree with Bob D. i think the blend door might be stuck. if the lines going into the firewall are frosting up when you jumped the compressor, then the blend door might be the problem. but then I can't think of why the compressor would start to cycle so quickly...may be because the cold air isn't flowing properly?

Re: Question About My A/c???

ok so I talked to my mechanic that i work with today and explained to him your situation. he tells me that your def extremely low on refrigerant. he said the reason why your lines freeze up when you jump the system is because it is probably the little refrigerant you have left freezing up and possibly even the oil that is in the compressor. he said that is why your A/C only stays cold for a short period of time because there isn't enough refrigerant to keep the system working correctly.

Re: Question About My A/c???

The Compressor should cycle ON and OFF about every 10 seconds for a couple minutes then stay running. If your comprssor is cylcing on and off very frequently then your probably low on refrigerant, makre sure you do not put too much in. The best thing would be to take it to a garage and have them recover all the freon and then refil the system that way you get the exact amount you need. Then if the air isn't cold enough they can diagnos the system with their guages. Or if you had a guage set (measures high and low side pressures).
