Re: WIP: McLaren M23 - 1976 - Hunt (Tamiya 1:20)

We are approaching the completion, and that means less explanation and more pictures.

The area behind the driver still needs scratchbuilding, so I started adapting the standard kitparts.

Just Stunning fantastic work
What type of paint did you use on the rear rollbar? I has a great chrome look to it.

Absolutely beautiful work! The weathering (from the period pictures that I've seen) is spot on - it's amazing just how much wear and tear the interiors back then seemed to suffer compared to modern F1.

Re: WIP: McLaren M23 - 1976 - Hunt (Tamiya 1:20)

The Tamiya kit "oil container" shape is totally wrong, so I was gonna scratchbuild it. But some friends of mine offered me to machine it for me. Yesterday I received the part so I can continue without delay. Thanks guys!

The aluminium part received a few connections and was put into color.

Re: WIP: McLaren M23 - 1976 - Hunt (Tamiya 1:20)

All the above mentioned parts have been fixed, after which I also added the aluminium strips to the sides of the car, as well as the rollbar and the emergancy stop fixed to the rollbar.

And from a little distance the McLaren looks like this now. Id it finished yet? No, because the front wheels bolts are still missing, as are the bodywork parts that still need detail painting.

Re: WIP: McLaren M23 - 1976 - Hunt (Tamiya 1:20)

Looks great Guy.Some beautiful detailing has gone into this and it really shows.I have to admit (and I'll probably get slated for saying this) but I'm not really a fan of the shape of the M23,in fact I find it quite ugly. But when built to the standard you have achieved it's very hard not to like it.Superb modeling.I look forward to seeing it completed.

Re: WIP: McLaren M23 - 1976 - Hunt (Tamiya 1:20)

Hi Guy,
I was able to pickup this model yesterday and would love to be able to see the WIP photos that go with this build. Looking at it in the completed projects you have done an amazing job.
Are you able to share the build photos again?
