lt1 distributer

I just pulled my buddys wtr pmp and dist. out of his 94 Z and went to install one I had on the shelf (70 k on it) and he brought one from his boss's car ( dont ask) all new. but on the back of both of the doners there is a large circle with three round depresions init and on the one coming out it only has a small gear opening . now im lost can the circle be removed and reveal the gear opening.

are you sure that the new ones are for a 94 lt1.
think any other years were different not sure though
i replaced mine and it had the gears you were talking about.
they attach to the camshaft gear to turn the optipack.
i would check the part #S AND THE APPLICATION OF THE THAT PART. sounds like you might have wrong year i did not puch or remove anything from my replacement one.
