Re: Turbocharged RX-8???

yeah greddy make's one. the stock rx8 made 202 whp on the 6speed and 160-70 on the automatic. the greddy kit made 260whp at 5-6psi. even so it didn't make much difference at the track. took only 0.2-0.3 off the 1/4mile ets.

Re: Turbocharged RX-8???

oh check out racingbeat they said that mazda have squeezed as much power out off the motor. exhaust you only gain about 2-3 and on some they have lost power. intake about the same.

Re: Turbocharged RX-8???

Yes, from the knowledge I have on my car. The Stock exhaust may not be the best sounding but its very good for the car. I think the only company that can actually prove a gain is Racing Beat. Others claim but never prove it. Racing Beats exhaust is just a little deeper than stock. Which I actually like! But I've see plenty of Turboed RX8's with the right tunings getting over 300HP to the wheels.

Re: Turbocharged RX-8???

I know Greddy makes a turbo kit for the RX-8, but does anyone know of any other companies that have come out with a turbo kit for the RX-8.

There is the PTP kit, Mazsport has 4 kits making over 400whp, Petit Racing just released a supercharger for it producing 260whp.

Re: Turbocharged RX-8???

What would be the best turbo kit to install on an RX-8? I know Mazsport makes a decent turbo kit for the RX-8 which makes around 400 wheel horse with the stock motor.

you know that cause i said it.....and mazsport would be the best to go with, but they are most expensive, but that is what you get for having the turbo kit reliable and fast. The greddy kit has blown alot of motors and even though it costs less, the problems it causes makes you spend more than the mazsport kit.

Re: Turbocharged RX-8???

I have the greddy kit on mine and I dont have alot of problems. The kit comes with really bad tuning so the first thing you need to do is get a wideband sensor and adjust fuel for boost and ignition timing. The stock injectors can handle constant 5.6 pounds of boost to redline with no problem. If you tune for peak torque then it can go up to 15.4 pounds. After you do that theres's really not much else to do unless you plan on turning up the boost.

Re: Turbocharged RX-8???

I dont push 15.6 psi, only 6.3 ish max. Plus, its not 15.6 to redline its 15.6 to peak torque which is 5.4k rpm, I really dont know. There is alot of math invovled in coming up with these numbers, I could show you if you want?

no it's alright, i've never heard or seen anyone, even at peak tq push 15.6 pounds, ive never seen them go past 12 cause it become dangerous even with careful tuning. thats why most people get a bigger turbo and run lower boost.

Re: Turbocharged RX-8???

yea 15 psi is rediculous but it sure would be fun for a couple of minutes. But I bet with racing fuel its not out of the question.

I believe its NOT going to have a Turbo, but I believe it will have a Super Charger. Many companies are actually starting to make superchargers for the 8 because for some reason they work better on the Rotary Engine.

The owner of RX8club.com said he drove a Greddy Turbo and a Pettit Supercharged RX8 and the supercharger felt like it had way more power accross the whole RPM Band!

Heres what it looks like:

Its still in the testing stage but right now that have between 30-50HP to the wheels at 6-8psi.
I think the reasoning for using a supercharger over a turbocharger is less likely of a boost spike to occur while the vehicle is being driven. Every one who has done some research on rotaries know that if boost spikes causing a possible lean mixture can say goodbye to the apex seals. The supercharger delivers a more controlled level of boost than a turbocharger, eventhough the supercharger does cause some parasitic draw on the motor. Also, a supercharger does not create as much heat as a turbocharger does thus can be used with out an air to air intercooler for less boost loss.
