Re: creative or crazy

Well, maybe if you have won the lottery and have plenty of $$$ and time......

IMO for less money and time required to install the 5.4, you could sell the 5.4, and buy a same- as- original engine in the GT, or (if it was originally a small block) just set up a 390/428. Such a combo would be fast and probably worth $$$ more than a 5.4

Since you are asking the question you may not know how big the job is, so heres some highlights:

If you must install the 5.4, get the measuring tape and do some very careful planning. Is there enough room for it to fit, with all plumbing and exhaust in place. Will the oil pan clear the chassis? Will the heads clear the spring towers and master cylinder? Will the exhaust clear the steering linkage?

There are lots of things to convert, too, such as a hook up to the stock radiator, electric fuel pump in the original gas tank, (or use a fuel cell)

The electrical would be a huge issue. You would have to include the complete engine wiring harness, including the ECM, all sensors, etc.

Custom engine mounts and exhaust would be needed, and lets not start on how the 5.4 power steering pump would work with the old steering box. (assuming it came with ps)

Do you have a transmission too? Look at custom trans cross member and drive shaft, and a big hammer to make clearance for a modern (longer) transmission.
