Homelink in the Montana

When did Pontiac start to put Homelink in the Montana? I am looking for one to put in our 98 Montana.

Re: Homelink in the Montana

I saw one awhile back in a 2001 Montana. I wonder if they debuted in that vehicle when they started to offer Onstar?

Re: Homelink in the Montana

According to GM's Onstar site, 1998 was the first year for OnStar. However, I seem to also recall that 2001 was the first year.

I found it to be useless to me and I let it expire after the free subscription....I'm trying to figure out if I can remove the switches and install the sunglass holder that goes in some Montanas.

Thank you. I will begin to look in the Junk Yards for a Homelink unit for our 98 Montana.

I do not believe that OnStar was an option for the 98. We have almost all of the options and OnStar is not one of them.

eBay has several overhead consoles with Homelink in them. Just do a search and you will find them.

Take Care,

I think when Onstar made it's debut it was put into "higher end" vehicles( i.e. Cadillacs, Buicks, etc.) and slowly made it's way "down the line" into other GM offerings over the years. I believe that is how new technology and the like get started at many car manufacturers. They place it in their high end or prestige models, then slowly offer it as an option in their other vehicles over the span of a few years.

Re: Homelink in the Montana

Interesting page from the OnStar site.

http://www.onstar.com/us_english/jsp...odel_years.jsp

Seems it was offered in 98 but it looks like it was klugey and needed a few extras to make it work.
