How do I go about doing this...

2000 Pontiac Sunfire
2200 engine
Automatic

ok, when im driving, i hear like a continuous clunking noise. when i give it a good amount of gas, it doesnt make the sound and when i apply the brakes heavy it doesnt make the sound. its the loudest when im not on the gas or brake, just coasting. i have no clue what it could possibly be. help?

CV shafts when they go make a clicking noise. Inspect the boots for a tear or cut.

See if you get a difference in sound based upon which direction the wheel is oriented. Could be wheel bearings. Though that'd be more of a hum than a clunk.

CRJ is probably right with the CV Joints...but...as long as you're going to have it in the air anyways...

That sounds like the EXACT same thing that happened to me...

Try check underneath your car. check the exhaust pipe all the way from header down to the exhaust muffler tip, check to see if anything is touching the pipe, cuz for me, the firewall was touching my exhuast pipe and made a constant clenking noise, and when i give it gas, the sound goes away, it only make the noise when i am idling...
