Thinking of buying a Hyundai Accent

I'm new to this section of the board. Are Hyundais good, reliabel cars that will last a long time and get good gas mileage? I was looking to buy a Honda Civic, but $16'500 is just too much. I've heard that Hyundais are somewhat cheaper (I hope). Thanks.

(Looking to get an 03 or 04 model)

Re: Thinking of buying a Hyundai Accent

i hate my hyundai nothign but problem. and dealre ships charge the crap out of you for parts. an example. my shift cable broke. they dont sell single cables and since you can only buy it at the dealer and you have to buy both cables as an assembly it sux. had to pay 190$. i dont think they are as reliable as others.

civics are known for being retail value or resell value higher than any other model. try for an accord. or even a toyota.

You also have an 11 year old Hyundai. Things have changed a bunch since '96. My wife uses a '96 Accord as a commuter car to and from work (45 miles each way). It needs a ton of work, and you think Hyundai parts are expensive? Try Honda parts. This Accord needs a new wiper transmission, $180 my cost from Honda, and I'm an employee. Same part on your '96 Accent, list is $68.10. My wife also used to have an '03 Sonata LX. Put 100k miles on it in 3 years without a single problem. Traded it in for an '06 Envoy because she wanted something bigger. Now you see why I bought the Accord simply for her to drive to work.

Honda's resale value does hold higher than Hyundai, but since you are already buying used, the Hyundai will have already taken it's biggest hit. The Accent is going to be smaller than a Civic. The Elantra is more the same size. We actually had an '01 Accent in here a couple years ago with 200k miles on it. Only thing he had to replace were the wheel bearings. He drives to and from Arizona and Indy several times a year. I have been with Hyundai for almost 5 years, and the # of warranty claims we place is about 1/4th of what it used to be. As long as you maintain them, they will last you a long time.

Re: Thinking of buying a Hyundai Accent

I just bought my son a 2003 Accent GT Hatchback with auto trans, ac, alloy wheels and front and side airbags plus all the normal equipment. It is in great shape and only has 32,000 miles on it. It also has 14 months left on the 60 month 60k mile warranty. Picked it up for just under $5,000. So far it seems like a great little car, he loves it.
