2002 Sihouette Foggy Headlamp

Hello All:

My son took the van to Florida for Spring Break and found rain, rain, rain. One of the headlamps has condensation that I can't seem to remove.

I don't see a crack or anything and I took the assembly off the car and removed the bulb so any condensation could escape but it has persisted.

My wife took her har dryer on the road with her since she doesn't trust the ones in the hotel I guess.screwy:

Any tips?

Riley

Riley: it will have drain hole that may have let in the moisture but it sounds more like the lens has detatched from the reflector. to test, pull the light ass. and the bulb out use a rubber glove on your hand and seal the best you can blow in a small shot of compressed air and you should hear the air escaping. you may have to try a soap check to pin point the leak. use a small amount of clear rvt silicone and let it dry (24 hrs) to seal and retest again. the dry out may look good only to see moisture (water beeds ) again. so repeat again with the hair dryer on low and let it blow a good 20 min and that should have it fixed. the gm lights have been a problem child over the years good luck : 463

Re: 2002 Sihouette Foggy Headlamp

I have found that the clear rvt silicone does not hold up as well with the sun's UV rays. I've had this problem on and off over the years I've owned my Ventures. In a search to see what I could use to finally fix the problem, I was directed by someone at my local body shop supply store to a 2 part epoxy sealant. I tried it out and it worked quite well, I haven't had to repair the lens again. It is a fast setting epoxy, so make sure you are ready to put the lens back on once you have mixed the epoxy. Also it helps a lot to get all traces of the old sealant out of the track of the housing where the lens sits in. This ensures a good seal. I'll look through my workshop tomorrow to see the exact name of that epoxy and post it here when I find the name if you care to try it .

(have found that the clear rvt silicone does not hold up as well with the sun's UV rays) I've never had this problem over the years I've used it. it may be that north of the 49th that the U/V index is lower and is not as much of a problem here. looking forward to your reply, 97 ventureowner. 463
