Legacy vs Impreza vs Saab9k vs FC vs Audi A4 1.8TQ

Im thinking of buying a slightly newer car and as always it is hard for me to decide between such cars:
Subaru Legacy GT (1995-1999)
Subaru Impreza RS (First gen.)
Saab 9000 Aero
Fiat Coupe 2.0T 16v
Audi A4 1.8TQ (1995-2000)

First of all, car will be daily driver, always wanted 4wd car, but power and comfort of saab and power and sportyness of Fiat makes me a little confused. Just wanna know what car would you choose as a dialy driving car. Ty guys

I would choose the subaru as it's the most reliable of the group (dunno about fiat) and is probably the easiest to work on also (flat engine). Legacy GT will have more features and is the only legacy that's fun to drive IMO. audi 1.8 turbo can be tuned to go much much much faster and has big aftermarket support plus has the luxury extras.

Re: Legacy vs Impreza vs Saab9k vs FC vs Audi A4 1.8TQ

Fiat has some electricity problems almost in all of its models, and this one is not the exception, however, in the other hand, it doesnt have any more major faults. One engine exper told me, that saab's and audi's (from this list) engines are the best, subaru is hard to repair, but if u maintain it in the right order it will go and go for millions of miles. Legacy 2.2L is the best option from the gama, but it lacks a lot of power, GT is a bit faster, but still not too much. However here where I live, subie impreza turbo costs twice as much as audi a4 1.8TQ, and if to compare audi with second generation wrx, the price is about 6 grand for audi and 12 grand for WRX. Funny, but first generation subie turbo costs almost as much as WRX.

Give me some more opinions

Re: Legacy vs Impreza vs Saab9k vs FC vs Audi A4 1.8TQ

I'm actually researching for a vehicle purchase in a few months and my top 2 are the WRX wagon and the Audi 1.8 turbo (wagon preferably). Audi's are nice as they have a big aftermarket support. Certain Audi aftermarket companies make chips for the 1.8 which will bring power numbers to the range of a stock WRX for around 400-500 bucks. Upgrading the turbo and you can get up to 350 on stock internals. They're very solid cars but aren't very reliable at all if not taken care of. Make sure the seller has maintenence records for the Audi. Maintenence cost will go up (likewise with a Saab) but parts costs aren't as bad as the labor costs to work on the car. Otherwise, they're really cheap luxury cars that are pretty sweet as long as it isn't a bad egg.
The only Saab i've ever driven (and can speak of) was a 9-3 turbo and i can say that sucker hauled a lot of balls. The 9000 looks good, seems to be worth the money for those ones that stayed in a garage a lot of it's life, but personally, i would just get an Audi A6.
Only real bad things about the WRX is lame interior and lame stock tires. Otherwise it's one of the best "all around" cars out there.

Re: Legacy vs Impreza vs Saab9k vs FC vs Audi A4 1.8TQ

fiat coupe turbo eats front tyres for breakfast and anything to do with the engine is going to cost you in labour more than parts. I'm also not sure if the chassis can take more power than it already has so if you're thinking of doing work on it, bear in mind that it probably won't make the car "better".
why are you looking at 16v models? what you want, is a late 20v turbo with six gears and lighter allloys.
or is that what I want?

fiat coupe is the prettiest car on the list but in the long term, it isn't going to be the cheapest. Insurance costs is right at the top of most lists and the turbo is thirsty.

Re: Legacy vs Impreza vs Saab9k vs FC vs Audi A4 1.8TQ

The Subarus are actually the worlds worst cars to service and maintain, especially if it's a Boxer, a lot of basic maintenence can turn into an engine-out job. The Fiat is not much better in that respect and blows through mechanical components very quickly.

The Audi is the better choice, easier to fix, easier to maintain, far more likely to still be on your driveway when you get up.

Go Saab 9000 ffs. Won't get a more comfy, more reliable, faster and good looking car for that price.

Legacy GT or Saab FTW! Audi are good cars, but the interiors imo is so boring. The 2.5 GT although a little crampy for someone that is above 6'1 has a great navigation system. The car rides a lil towards the stiff side but can out handle any in its class (i believe.) Have you ever thought of a Acura TL. That car is very comfortable and well styled. A lil more expensive but you get what you paid for.

Re: Legacy vs Impreza vs Saab9k vs FC vs Audi A4 1.8TQ

ben, you realise what years of the cars he is looking at right? those cars are all from the pre turbo subaru days.

2.5 RS's look good but has a horrible interior and is slow as dirt, the old legacy GT aren't exactly luxurious or agressive looking.

audi A4 is hands down the nicest looking and IS the nicest car there, but its also the most probmatic. if you got money to fix it every few months, than this car is for you.

the saab 9000's are alittle weird for me. not really feeling the hatchback or the weird "7" shaped dash.

dont get the Audi A4, that is the lowest audi you can get and has alot of electrical bugs.

Get a VW jetta 1.8t which is on the higher end of the VW, doesnt have as much luxioury as the Audi but thats a good thing. And regarding the engines, you'd have to get one from 2002 + to have the base power of 180, the previous years with the 150hp engines were pig slow

Whoops honest mistake. In that case Audi it is.
