92 towncar

Hello
I want to purchase a 1992 towncar with 112,221 on the clock for 800 bucks. It needs a new exhaust. How much are lincoln exhausts and what are the known probles for this year? Im a former cadi owner, so Im excited for the switch. Thanks

Re: 92 towncar

Hi Jon.
This subject was covered a few times before however, I'll touch on some of the things we're having problems with at around 100k. miles.

Keep in mind, if you can find proof that these things were properly maintained this whole chart goes out the window, if it rolls down.

The most expensive stuff that goes out at around 100k miles:
  • Transmission (if not properly maintained)
  • Air Suspension System (air springs go first, easy fix)
  • Air Conditioning System. Blend Door has a high failure rate at 100k miles.

Then theres the annoyances:
  • Window Regulators
  • Door Hinge Pins
  • Sticking Lock Mechanisms
  • Multifunction Switch
  • Alarm Malfunctions

Then due to the fact that your in Missouri where roads are salted and generally, a wetter climate;
  • Brake Lines
  • Ride Height Sensors (and brackets)
  • ABS Sensors

Then, soon to come if not already a problem;
  • Bushings
  • Ball Joints
  • Tie Rod ends
  • Stabilizer Bar Links
  • Idler Arm, Pitman Arm

The rest of the crew here will chime in with their 100k + annoyances very soon. In the meantime, browse through some of the posts that catch your eye.

Remotes can be had off Ebay if you need any. What model Town Car is this one?

For the exhaust, theres nothing special about these, you can have it repaired anywhere. I prefer the small 'hole in the wall' type shops for this kind of work, most are honest and do better work for a better price.
