Snitchin' hurts business

On 60 minutes:

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/...n2704565.shtml

Apparently, this is nothing new, but it's in the news a little more these days. Rappers are making lots of money on it. I watched Anderson Cooper's interview with Geoffrey Canada, with excerpts from rapper Cam'ron's 60 minutes interview. The interview with Cam'ron is on the page in the link.

All kinds of things discussed, but Cam'ron said that the recording business encourages this stuff, and he doubts very seriously that the recording industry would ask any of its artists to stop promoting the message, since they're making lots of money.....................

Re: Snitchin' hurts business

people not snitching is about as common as smoking weed. You can't snitch to smoke weed right? hmmm. but on-the-other-hand snitching has been put on a bigger scale.....period

I think it has been blown way out-of-focus because of the association it brings. "Snitching" is usually the right thing to do. But looking at it from a media point-of-view, a snitch is usually a bitch or a hater. People will hate. Nobody wants to be a bitch. (although some naturally can't help it) its ok....the world is fucked up anyway.

Well that is true, the recording companies are businesses after all. The sole idea of a business is to make profit and they make money off of it so no reason to stop promoting the message in that sense. I wouldn't say "follow it" however. Music is entertainment and i have always strongly believed that you cannot take anything mentioned seriously or literally, especially for rap music.

As a code of ethics, I understand where Cam'ron is coming from, even though i don't agree with part of it. If you witness a crime, then it is your responsibility to report what you saw so you can help bring the criminal to justice and help the police make good use of your tax dollars bringing law breakers to justice. I do not see how this is considered "snitching". Guess it would depend on the crime (or should it ). As for the "serial killer next door," I agree. Stuff like that i'd consider snitching.

Re: Snitchin' hurts business

What a derivative piece of drivel. People hating on snitches and rats is about as old as human history, no one likes a tattletale. Where's the article about The Sopranos, or any mobster movie for that matter? This is just a cheap article taking potshots at hiphop, giving the conservatives of America exactly what they want to hear: minorities are the cause of all the problems in their precious little country.
