92 lincoln dash lights

I have a 92 town car. When i turn the headlight switch all the way to the lef the dash lights come on if i hold it there they will stay on when i let go they go off. If i turn it past the click they stay on and so do the interior lights. The book says the lights should brighten and dim as you turn the switch from right to left mine do not and only come on just before the click to turn on the interior lights. Does this mean i need a new switch or how do i get my dash lights to stay on.

Yep, that sure sounds like a bad, or maybe just dirty, rheostat within the switch. Most folks would just replace the switch... I'd rip the old one apart trying to improve the original design first

Have you tried rotating the switch rapidly over it's entire range in an attempt to get better contact through abuse?
