No AC only hot air 97 grand prix GT SE 3800

Hi I have a 97 Grand Prix GT SE 3800 and when I turn on the AC the air isn't cold. I just had a problem with the blower motor resistor and had that replaced. I'm wondering if something may have gotten messed up when that was replaced. That was about a month ago and I hadn't used my AC for a long time before that.

I bought some 134a(freon) and hooked that up to the low pressure valve and it didn't read anything when the car and AC were on. So I tried filling it shaking the can I don't know if it worked pressure was in the full zone at some point when the can was hooked up and the line running to the compressor did become cold. I still did not hear the compressor turn on though maybe its just quiet I don't know. My dad says I should be able to hear it turn on though. Also my mom said she saw oil underneath where my car was parked my oil light has not come on but I read that compressors have oil so I was wondering if this may have something to do with it as well.

I have read in the forums but could not find anything definitive. I was wondering how I could test if it is the compressor, the relay, low freon or something else and what would be the cheapest way to go about these things. So if you have any ideas please let me know. Thanks.

Well I tried adding freon again because I thought it may not have gone in right. It works now but only on the passenger side.

My son had a 97 GP that we just got rid of, it had a similar problem. The AC compressor would engage, but you'd only get cold air on one side. He had a refrigerant kit from AutoZone, and it showed the correct pressure, but it still didn't blow cool air everywhere. I read in one of these forums where someone stated that if it didn't blow cold everywhere, then it was low on refrigerant. This didn't make sense to me, but we no longer have the car, so I never did figure it out.

Well I have no A/C today so now I have to find out where the leak is. I may just take it to a shop but I'm not sure how much it will cost.

well I took it to the shop and they wanted $110 just to evac and put dye in then for me to come back so they could see where the leak was. I went to walmart and bought a recharge kit that claims to seal small leaks as well. Well I get back and look under my hood. Near the front on the passenger side near some component of the A/C system is where the leak is. I couldn't get a close look at it though due to other things in the way. The substance that is leaking looked like it had some oil in it.

I've read in other places that oil needs to be added when you recharge it so I hope I didn't mess anything up.

Well all of the R134a has leaked out the leak is somewhere on the passenger side. There is an oily fluid all over the underside of the passenger side.

Most likely you have a split line or a leak at the condenser if it's up front on the passenger side.

Another possibility is the compressor. When the seal goes bad you get a mess and good leak of refrigerant and the PAG oil since it is located on the passenger side of the engine.
