WIP: SLR McLaren (in a different color!)

Well, I had to put by dual Ferraris on hold due to a polishing mishap (gentler is better!) so I decided to start on this girl from in the stash. Color is Aquamarine Pearl, and I think it looks gorgeous. Little bit of orange peel, but that'll sand then polish right out... as soon as I buy a proper sanding/polishing kit... no more Turtle Wax for me, nosir. Alright, no more excuses, here are a couple pictures. Comments are welcome... this is probably my 2nd best paint job yet!

Re: WIP: SLR McLaren (in a different color!)

Thanks for all the comments. I'm dying to get home and get this sucker polished and built... stupid college and finals getting in the way!

I'm actually looking online right now, and lets say I'm looking to buy polishing materials from Hiroboy. Which of the various Micromesh kits (PolishingStiX, Craft Kit, or Hobby Kit) should I get? I'll also be picking up all three of the Tamiya polishing compounds, or is that redundant? Thanks for the advice, I appreciate all you can give.

Re: WIP: SLR McLaren (in a different color!)

The polishingstix set seems to be more touch up or to get to hard to reach places, polishing a whole car body with this set seems a little impractical.
Craft/Hobby kits are more or less the same, only difference is the way the abrasive comes. I bought the Craft Kit last year and have been using it since. I personally like all the grit to have individual pads. It seems that if you want to use the pad with the Hobby kit, you need to wrap the sandpaper around the pad each time you use it.

As for the Tamiya compound, don't bother with the coarse. Its more or less the same grit as 2000 sandpaper (wet-sanded).

Re: WIP: SLR McLaren (in a different color!)

Thanks Steve. I really appreciate you chiming in on that. I'll get that order in soon, so hopefully things will be ready by the time I get home from college. I think I might also get some paint and change the colors on my dual Ferraris... hahahahahaha!

Re: WIP: SLR McLaren (in a different color!)

Well, I've begun progress on the interior. I'll post pictures tomorrow (sorry, but I just got back from college and haven't unpacked my car yet) as well as try to get some of the exterior in natural light. It's darker than it looks.

The interior is mostly tan and black, with a couple blue highlights.

Re: WIP: SLR McLaren (in a different color!)

As promised, here are pictures. Please ignore any "outside the lines" tan paint, as I haven't painted semi-gloss black yet, except in 1 footwell of the interior, which you'll see. Nothing is glued together yet; it's all held by tape.

Interior:

Exterior:

I know there's overspray on the seats, but I was planning on putting on another layer (I handbrush most of my cars) of tan on them, so it's really no setback. I think the tan and the blue really offset each other well... I'm very happy with how this car is coming together thus far. I hope to have most of the semi-gloss-black done today.

I got a bit more work done today. Here it is. The last two pictures are for hompe, to show that I do indeed get my hands dirty!

Re: WIP: SLR McLaren (in a different color!)

More progress, but I lost the Mercedes-Benz lettering decal off of one of my rear brakes. If anybody has an extra, and you could send it to me, please PM me!
