Tansmission clunk
I am looking at Jeep Cherokee's about 2000 or 2001 vintage. I drove one (a Sport) that clunked when you had your foot on the brake and shifted from reverse to drive. There was a very loud klunk. I took it to a very reliable mechanic who assured me that the sound was normal and "within Jeep tolerance".
I have owned mostly GM products and never heard "cluncks" in any tranny I have ever driven/owned. Is this really normal/ok for this vehicle? I can't believe it is. Clunks can't be "normal" in my opion, but I am no mechanic, thus the question. Any input is appreciated. (I passed on this vehicle by the way because of this issue). |

Re: Tansmission clunk
If it makes you feel better mine clunks too lol. I dont think it's normal, but I havn't got the money to really have it examined yet. Mine also clunks while downshifting and accelerating.

Re: Tansmission clunk
If your trucks are all wheel drive, chances are the "clunk" is the transfer case chain is stretched out of adjustment. My 99 Laredo did the same damn thing.

Re: Tansmission clunk
thanks for the input. I just don't was to pay for a hunk of iron to sit on my driveway when someone tells me the tranny is shot and will cost $2000 or more to fix.
