Is cruise control hard to turn on, or am I doing it all wrong?

I have an 04 GT2, I can't seem to get cruise control to work. It seems laughable, but I've read the book, and it doesn't work =(

The car has 100k on it, so I have to wonder if something is broken. Here's what I've read and what I think I understand.

Cruise won't work with TCS on right? If I am reading the book right (again), I need to press the TCS button on center console and I get the amber light with the car sliding (this means it's off right?).

Then, while driving I press the button in on the right cruise control lever, push it forward to set current speed, and that's it?

Oh, and this website rocks! Thanks to everyone who contributes.. Learning lots about the pings/knocks I am hearing from my car!

Although laughable, trying to diagnose if it's broken?!

Thanks!

Re: Is cruise control hard to turn on, or am I doing it all wrong?

In my 2000 Gp you have to slide the "On" switch to the "On" position first before the lock button will work. You also might check to see if the cable connection at the throttle is still connected. Mine had recently come off causing my cruise control not to work. You might also inspect the cruise control system in the engine compartment such as the cruise control cable and box. Good Luck.

Re: Is cruise control hard to turn on, or am I doing it all wrong?

Looks like I was on the right track. Thanks for the post, nothing is wrong with my setup. My problem was with traction control. I assumed by default it was off all the time unless I engaged it. Once I press TCS, it turns off (I never payed attention to the center console saying it was off). All I have to do then is move the lever foward to set the speed I want, move it down to engage, and then press the button in on the handle to start.

I guess it all makes sense after you figure it out like anything else.

=P
