2001 Windstar CV Joints

I have a 2001 Windstar with 112K miles on it. The driver's side outer CV joint is shot. I'm going to change that halfshaft, but given the age of the vehicle would it be prudent to change the passenger side halfshaft while I am down there? There aren't any failure symptoms on that side, yet, and I'm not looking to spend as much money as I can. I'm just looking for some insight into standard practice. Anyone have any guidance?

I would be comfortable in only changing out the bad shaft. I have a '96 with 150K and the left shaft is original. No Problems. And, I have never read, or heard of it being "standard practice" as it would be with brake rotors, wheel cylinders etc.

Changing the other shaft would be double the work. No need to do so unless it is bad.

Hey Fran D I want to change my half shafts as well on my 1999 windstar because I am getting this vibration coming from somewhere, what are the symptoms of your bad cv half shaft is there any vibrations?, and does anyone know how to correctly check if the half shafts are bad and need changing.

Typically, you should also hear some noise emanating from the drivetrain as well. For me it was the classic "clicking" (or, in my case, clacking! ) that changed with vehicle speed. If it's just a vibration, you may want to check things like tire balance and suspension mounts/components, first.
